In climbing, "dynos" refer to dynamic moves. OVERhang's Dynos are a dynamic group of youth that are growing and exploring their abilities and interests through climbing.
Dynos is a new program offered at OVERhang - it began in Fall 2021! It is an advanced climbing training program for youth that have previously done some climbing and have pushed past the Mountain Goats program, but aren't yet 100% committed to elite training and traveling to compete regionally/provincially on the Competitive Team. The Dynos program will propel these individuals to train and enjoy climbing with a group of youth that all love the sport... and may spark their interest in joining the comp team in the future.
Youth aged 12-17
More technique-focused than Mountain Goats, less intense than Competitive Team. For those kids who are too old for Goats, or who are keen for more climbing and may be interested in someday joining the Comp Team. Maybe they love climbing but aren’t ready for the dedication of the training for competition... the Dynos will fit this wide range of interests.
An hour and a half of coached sessions. Shoe rental is an additional $18 for the duration - but we strongly encourage that participants purchase their own, and climb multiple days per week outside the program!
Participants get half price off their monthly memberships and will be encouraged to drop in 1-3 other times throughout the week to practice and grow their skills, at times of their own choosing. We facilitate discussions between participants to help them connect and grow within the broader climbing community.
There is a focus on technical skills such as belaying, route reading, and climbing-related strength and fitness, but also a healthy dose of fun and games! The goal is to prepare some individuals to join the comp team; yet also create a more casual, climbing-for-fun dynamic for those who don’t have the time or motivation for the rigors of competition.
During their session, Dynos will build on the basic skills learned in Mountain Goats, expanding/deepening their skills, knowledge, communication and fitness to climb smarter, safer, and harder, as well as grow their love for the sport and the community. Join us for a fun, supportive, and structured HANGout time for teens.
To support the child growing into the sport, we support the participation of their family!
