Youth Program Coach

We are looking for enthusiastic, community-minded individuals who want to share their passion for climbing with Prince George's youth!

Our Youth Program Coaches create engaging and supportive environments that foster curiosity, confidence, and growth for both new and returning climbers. Through age-appropriate programming, coaches help participants develop climbing skills, movement literacy, problem-solving abilities, and a lifelong love of physical activity.

Our after-school youth programs run throughout the week, Monday through Friday, following the School District 57 calendar. We offer programs for youth ages 3-17, including specialized programming for neurodivergent participants and private coaching opportunities.

This position does not require availability every weekday. Coaches are assigned to specific programs based on availability, qualifications, and program needs. Successful applicants may coach one or multiple weekly programs.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop semester-long program plans that include goals, objectives, and measurable outcomes for participants.
  • Coordinate with co-coaches and the broader coaching team to ensure programming aligns with the progression of each age category and prepares participants for future advancement.
  • Lead weekly after-school sessions while adapting programming to participant needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all climbers.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and fellow staff.
  • Monitor participant progress and provide constructive feedback and encouragement.
  • Uphold all facility safety standards, risk management procedures, and coaching best practices.
  • Assist with program setup, equipment organization, and facility cleanliness as required.
  • Participate in coach training, planning meetings, and program evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Experience climbing and a passion for sharing the sport with others.
  • Experience working with children and youth is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Current First Aid certification is considered an asset.
  • Previous coaching experience is not required; training and mentorship will be provided to the right candidate.

Compensation & Schedule
Starting wage is $18.50 per hour.

We are primarily looking for individuals who have availability between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on weekdays. Coaches are not required to work Monday through Friday and may be scheduled for one or more weekly programs depending on their availability and our programming needs. We understand that the ideal candidate may be a student, and we're willing to work around school schedules where possible!

This role has the potential to grow into additional gym operations, coaching, instructional, or outdoor education opportunities as both the employee and OVERhang see fit.

How to Apply
To apply, please send your resume and a brief cover letter to our General Manager, Kat, at info@overhang.ca.

We look forward to hearing from you!
