Swiftwater Safety Rescue Technician III (SSRT3):

The SRT3 course is designed for professional rescuers and others working in medium to high risk river or flood environments.  Building on the level 2 course components covered in the first two days (Basic River Safety and Assessment, Self Rescue, and Partner Rescue), the third day includes Subject Rescue, Rescue Swimming and Rescue Systems.

Working from simple to complex systems and focusing on third party rescues are all performed beyond the skills previously taught in the other courses.  Swimming in Class 2-3 whitewater, contact rescues, rope work, leadership, communication, and scenarios are the focus of this training course.

What is Swiftwater Training?

For those fishing, boating, hunting, working, or recreating in or near rivers and other moving water environments, swiftwater courses help you understand your environment, discover your personal limitations, grow excellent skills, and make good decisions.  These courses focus on hazard awareness and avoidance, wading strategies, self-rescue, rescuing others, and specialized river safety equipment. This training is key for making sure you go home after a day on the river!

Swiftwater courses vary from 1 to 4 day durations, and are offered through Rescue Canada and OVERhang.  For a detailed description of the different levels, check this out  - then come back here to register, as not all OVERhang courses are listed on the Rescue Canada website.  If you'd like to chat with a swiftwater specialist at OVERhang to determine which level of training is right for you, contact OVERhang and ask for Lauren or Austin.  They will explore what activities you do, what types of rivers you are in, how remote, and other risk factors and considerations.

Click HERE to register, $500 plus GST.

No prerequisites, other than swimming ability.

Registration closes at least 1 week prior to the course. Make sure you register today to guarantee your spot!  If you need to rent any PPE (drysuit, helmet, gloves, boots, throwbag on a rapid deployment belt, and PFD with knife/whistle/leash), then you'll need to provide your detailed sizing info during registration (height, weight, chest diameter, and shoe size).  PPE Rental is $175 plus GST.

Most courses in North/Central BC take place between late June and early August (after spring freshet, and before the low water levels of late summer/fall).  We also take requests for private group courses, when we have availability.  We recommend exploring this several months in advance.
