Summer Camp Leader

Inspire a whole summer's worth of kids as their camp leader!

In late June you'll spend a week training and planning for the summer, then you'll dig into 10 weeks of day camps with your camp colleagues (work term: June 21-Sept 2).  An earlier June start is a possibility (likely part-time).

Wage: $15.20/hour ($620 per week).

OVERhang's 2021 summer camps will focus on indoor climbing, outdoor games, sunny games of tennis, arts and crafts, golf, obstacle courses, lawn sports, and more.  We typically have 14 kids per week, and two camp staff running the show.  Some weeks will be aimed at a younger crowd (ages 6-9), with slightly shorter days... other weeks will be for a slight older bunch (ages 8-12).  For more info about this year's camps click here.

Located right in Prince George, BC, OVERhang's facility is centrally located in town and accessible on foot or by bus.  This position is perfect for college/university students or other enthusiastic folks with a background in child care, coaching, youth sports, and/or running summer camps.

Each OVERhang staff member contributes to building an environment that is inclusive of all. We are looking for leaders who want to be role models and bring values that will help our community grow and our members reach their full potential.  Our staff must be keen, energetic, organised, safety-focused, and great with kids!  Skills in conflict resolution, risk management, and communication are key.  Must be flexible, creative, collaborative, and willing to take direction.

All staff are subject to reference checks and a criminal record check.  A successful candidate without first aid training will receive it; prior first aid training is preferred.

Summer Camps during a Pandemic:

OVERhang's camps operated successfully during the Summer of 2020 and Spring Break of 2021, and we expect to be fully operational again in Summer of 2021 (unless we are directed otherwise by provincial health orders).

Operating amidst a pandemic has required putting into place comprehensive protocols aimed at keeping all campers and staff healthy and safe while also ensuring that our program is meaningful and fun. These protocols have added additional layers of health and safety procedures and have also placed some limitations on all members. We anticipate that many of these protocols will be in place in 2021 to ensure that we are protecting every participant and staff member. As part of our hiring process, prospective staff members will be provided with our COVID protocols to ensure that they understand how they will be a part of keeping our community healthy.
