Snowshoe Rentals

 

 OVERhang has snowshoes for rent!  We wish to make outdoor winter recreation accessible to everyone, so they're only $9 for a 24 hour period.  Available whenever the climbing gym is open.

  • We require a $50 deposit or credit card info in case of damage/loss.

  • Renting for 1 day means 24 hours max. Must be returned by next day, during our open hours.

Recommended Local Snowshoeing Areas in non-avalanche terrain:

 

In Town:

 

Cottonwood Island Park:  This flat, scenic trail system is also part of an 11km circuit along the river to Fort George Park and the Hudson Bay Slough. The Prince George Railway & Forestry Museum is also located adjacent to the park.  Location: River Road.

 

Otway Nordic Ski Center:  The Otway Nordic Ski Centre includes 55km of groomed ski trails, but please stick to their numerous snowshoe trails!  Stick to the pine flats or head up into the hills.  The facility also hosts a biathlon range with small cabin, and a large comfortable day lodge complete with heated washrooms, change room, wax room, kitchen, small concession (snacks and drinks), some dog friendly ski trails, and a ski school.  You can rent snowshoes and skis at their facility as well.  Otway has additional trail costs – please support their amazing trails and facilities.  Location: 8141 Otway Road. Greenway: This rolling trail network connects Otway Nordic Ski Center to UNBC and the Blue Spruce Trail Head.  Multiple starting point options, two of which are described here.

  • Option A:  20.8 km from Blue Spruce to Otway. Blue Spruce trailhead is located 2.7km west of the intersection between Domano Blvd and Highway 16; turn right onto Kimball Rd (before Art Knapp’s) and drive 0.5 km to the trail head at a yellow gate.  Make sure to park according to park where allowed.
  • Option B: 17.4 km from UNBC to Otway: Drive up University Way and turn right onto the road just past the university entrance. The trailhead is 100m down the road on the left (follow the signs).

 

Forests for the World: A trail network complete with interpretive signage, viewpoints, and lakes!  Only 500m from parking lot to Shane Lake and 20km worth of trails around the park.  Located on Cranbrook Hill.  NOTE: People do get lost on these trails; pay attention and take a map!

  • Option A:  Turn onto Cranbrook Hill Rd off of Foothills Blvd.  Drive up the hill for 1.5 km, turn left onto Kueng Road and drive 2.3 km to the main parking lot.
  • Option B:  Follow directions for Option B to Greenway Trails, then follow signs to the right at fork.

Ferguson Lake: off Ferguson Lake road.

 

 

Out of Town:

Eskers Park: 20km of trails within the gorgeous park.  Bring a map!  Location: From the corner of Chief Lake Road and Highway 97 North, drive 26.0 km down Chief Lake Road. Turn right onto Ness Lake Road North and drive 1.0km to the park entrance. Turn left into the park and drive 3.0km to reach the main parking lot.  Watch for people ice fishing on the numerous lakes!

Other Great Options:  Lost Lake (Beaverley area), Tacheeda Lookout, Livingston Springs, Fort George Canyon.
